MicroWaveConverter – v1.0.0
[30-Dec-2025]

MicroWaveConverter is a program to convert single wave cycles contained in a WAV file to a (MIDI SysEx) User Wavetable file for the Waldorf Microwave 1 (firmware revision 1.2 or higher). It is available for Microsoft Windows only and uses NAudio by Mark Heath for reading WAV files.
I originally developed MicroWaveConverter for Piet Wagner who also Beta-tested it.
Download & Installation
Unzip the downloaded ZIP file mwc_1_0_0_winapp.zip to any folder you like and run the contained
MicroWaveConverter.exe.
Usage
- a WAV file which contains some single wave cycles,
- a Waldorf Microwave 1 firmware revision 1.2 or higher, and
- some software that allows you to send MIDI SysEx data to your Microwave.
- Start the program and select the WAV file you want to convert by clicking "Open WAV File...". The output MIDI SysEx file to generate will automagically be named accordingly.
- Now you have to provide the number of samples per wave cycle in your WAV (default is 128, but you should know better).
MicroWaveConverter will calculate the number of waves cycles from this number and the length of the WAV file – you'll get an error if the product of samples and cycles does not match the WAV length. - Next you have to select the User Wavetable number (where your wavetable should be stored on the Microwave) and the Wave numbers (where your wave cycles should be stored).
- Finally click on CONVERT! and send the generated SysEx file to your Microwave unit.
Notes
- MicroWaveConverter will always create 61 waves (using cubic interpolation), regardless of how many single wave cycles your WAV file contains. Thus, it is possible to generate a wavetable from just two cycles... free your mind and do some experiments!
- The generated SysEx should work with the Microwave 1 plugin, too. During my tests, the plugin gave an error after loading the SysEx file, but the User Wavetable was imported A-OK.
